What do you think?

Inspired by a friend's blog, I'm doing a little maintenance on my site.  While I may be many things, I am not a designer.  That's where you guys come in.

Any ideas?  What do you like and not like about blogs?  Should I jump on the numerous page bandwagon and put a second page on?  Should I calm down my acid trip coloring?  Do I really need to organize my labels and make browsing my page more convenient? Or is everything just rainbows and unicorns and I should just leave it be?

Any thoughts and tips would be great!!  Thanks!

  1. Love the new pic and background. It looks like you added labels which is great. Really enjoying your blog, got lost in it yesterday and was laughing so hard about your RuPaul post--now whenever I am feeling all foreign and culture shocked, I can definitely think "I am SO not alone."

  2. I know you are fishing for suggestions and not just "everything is great" comments, but I don't have much. I will say that I prefer the short and sweet post format over the "read a hook paragraph here and then read the rest after the jump" format. No need for a separate page, IMHO.

For me, less is more. I enjoy your blog because I enjoy your personality - not your web design skills. What do I want? More you -- not more bells and whistles.

But do what makes you happy. It is your project. Have fun with it. I will come along for the ride.

  3. You guys rock! So I'm going to stop wasting my time trying to update the site and just write.

On a side note, thanks for the kind words! I didn't go out fishing this morning but it's still nice to come home with a catch! Your kind words mean a lot. Thank you!

(And I've used my quota for exclaimation points for the month)

  4. Rachel I love your blog as is for several reasons:

--your posts are short, sweet, to the point, and easy to read with short, numerous paragraphs (and echoing Jim, IMHO a 2nd page is unnecessary)

--you post daily if not more than once daily (except weekends, and that's totally understandable!), and I always look forward to your newest post

--the picture at the beginning of each post either cracks me up or is perfectly appropriate for the subject of the post

--I like that recent comments can easily be seen on the right hand side

--Design-wise it's perfectly fine the way it is...easy to read and navigate. I'm much more interested in what you write than in cosmetics anyway.

--Hey if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? ;-)

--In sum: a delightful pleasure to read every day.
