"I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I have always had a fascination with seeds. During my experimentation with jewelry design, I realized that besides being unusual and beautiful, necklaces made with seeds are also meaningful, for seeds are a symbol for birth, rebirth, and renewal. This is an important connection to make now that our environment is threatened.
I combine the seeds with more "sophisticated" and expensive material like semi-precious stones, pearls, and silver --- this creates an interesting perspective on the idea of preciousness: it is the seeds that make spóra’s necklaces precious.
I go to Brazil at least once a year to visit my family and to buy seeds; all my jewelry is handmade by me. It is nice to know that picking seeds is a source of income for many natives in the amazon rainforest. I am glad I can "show off" a little bit of Brazil in my designs."
